Ilhan Omar’s list of controversies and scandals continues to grow by the day.
But this time Omar crossed a line that she may not be able to come back from.
That’s because what Ilhan Omar said about Jesus will leave you speechless.
Omar’s social media accounts are the source of her problems.
Activists unearthing the Minnesota Democrats old, anti-Semitic tweets started a seemingly endless cycle of Omar expressing bigoted views about Jews and Israel and then issuing a fake apology while the national Democrat Party stood by silently twiddling their thumbs.
But Omar’s new crisis is different.
This time it is a tweet from the present day that has Omar in hot water.
Omar retweeted Omar Suleiman – a professor at Southern Methodist University – who falsely claimed that Jesus was a Palestinian.
Suleiman wrote “I was once asked by a relative who is a Palestinian Christian why the Christian right in America largely supports their oppression. "Don't they know we're Christian too? Do they even consider us human? Don't they know Jesus was a Palestinian?"”
This is a lie.
Jesus was born in Bethlehem – which was in Israel – to Mary and Joseph.
There is never any referent to Palestine in the story of Jesus’s birth.
Anti-Semites like Omar spread this lie because if Jesus is a Palestinian, then Israel is occupying Palestinian territory.
This falsehood rests at the heart of the Palestinians campaign of terror against Israel.
But never before has a U.S. elected official spread this conspiracy theory that helps fuel terrorism and murder in the Middle East.
There have been whispers among Minnesota Democrats that they need to recruit a primary challenger to run against Omar before she takes down the whole party in 2020 with her bigotry and constant media firestorms.
Many Americans think Omar’s lie about Jesus should be the final straw that pushes those talks from the planning stages into action.
