The losing streak, one of the longest in franchise history, was extended to 12 games after a 5-3 loss to the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday night, after the Mets blew a three-run lead.
The streak began one game before Mamdani visited Citi Field and hugged Mr. and Mrs. Met, the team mascots. The moment prompted the New York Post to dub the skid the “Curse of the Mambino,” a play on the “Curse of the Bambino,” the 86-year championship drought that began when the Boston Red Sox traded Babe Ruth to the New York Yankees.
