James “Mad Dog” Mattis was one of Donald Trump’s most celebrated cabinet selections.
But his tenure ended in controversy when he shockingly resigned in December over a policy disagreement with the President.
And now General Mattis is writing a bombshell new book, and you won’t believe what it says about Donald Trump.
This summer will see Mattis release “Call Sign Chaos: Learning to Lead,” which chronicles Mattis’s military service and will center on his command in Afghanistan and Iraq.
“My purpose in writing this book is to convey some of the lessons I learned in 43 years of service for those who might benefit, whether in the military or in civilian life,” Mattis told the Associated Press.
The next – and most obvious questions – was if Mattis would discuss his time serving President Trump as Secretary of Defense.
Mattis disappointed “resistance” members of the media with his answer.
I’m old-fashioned: I don’t write about sitting presidents, so those looking for a tell-all will be disappointed. I want to pass on the lessons and experiences that prepared me for challenges I could not anticipate, not take up the hot political rhetoric of our day,” Mattis stated.
Mattis famously clashed with President Trump over the President’s “America First” foreign policy.
“Mad Dog” Mattis ended up being far more moderate and opposed the President’s policies on withdrawing from the Barack Obama’s disastrous Paris Global Warming Accords, tearing up Obama’s Iran deal and President Trump ban on transgender troops.
But it was President Trump’s decision to end Barack Obama’s foolhardy war in Syria that was the final straw that broke the camel’s back.
Mattis turned in his resignation letter after President Trump rejected the globalist arguments for fighting a “forever war” in Syria and told the American people it was time to bring the troops home in honor and victory.
“Because you have the right to have a Secretary of Defense whose views are better aligned with yours on these and other subjects, I believe it is right for me to step down from my position,” Mattis wrote to the President.
Some Never Trump Republicans – as well as many Democrats wishing to see the President defeated – secretly wanted Mattis would challenge President Trump in the 2020 Republican Primary.
But Mattis made it clear he lives by a code of honor, and that means showing respect to the current Commander-in-Chief.
That means there will be no book tour trashing the President and there certainly will not be a 2020 Mattis Presidential campaign.
