Brian Thompson, the 50-year-old CEO of UnitedHealthcare, was shot and killed in Midtown Manhattan early Wednesday morning, PIX 11 reported. The shooter is still at-large.
Sources told the New York City television station that Thompson was shot near the Hilton hotel on 54th Street between 6th and 7th Avenues. He was rushed to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Police believe it was a targeted attack, according to the New York Times. The police report said the gunman was wearing a black face mask and fled on foot, heading east along 6th Avenue, the Times reported. Police sources told the New York Post that the masked man was waiting for Thompson before opening fire on him from 20 feet away — striking him multiple times — and then fleeing on a bike. The Post reported that the suspect is a white male.
