The Supreme Court could be in for a massive shakeup.
This fight could redefine American politics for decades.
And now all hell is breaking loose after Donald Trump heard this bombshell news about the next Supreme Court retirement.
During the 2016 election, Mitch McConnell blocked any votes on Merrick Garland – Barack Obama's nominee to succeed Antonin Scalia – because
McConnell felt that with the presidency controlled by the Democrats and the Senate run by the Republicans the voters should decide who filled Scalia's seat.
American who listed the Supreme Court as their top issue broke massively in favor of Donald Trump and as President Trump selected Neil Gorsuch to replace Justice Scalia.
Mitch McConnell was recently asked at a local event in Kentucky what he would do if a seat opened up during the 2020 election.
"Oh, we'd fill it," McConnell responded.
The fake news media immediately accused McConnell of hypocrisy.
CNN's political propagandist Chris Cillizza's shrieked that, "What McConnell really was saying on Tuesday was that what was good for the goose is not, in fact, good for the gander. That because the court pick Trump would make would align with McConnell's views, it would be OK. Whereas Obama's pick of Garland was not."
But that just isn't true, and it is typical CNN fake news.
In March 2016 McConnell specifically cited divided government and American historical precedent as to why McConnell and the GOP would leave the decision of selecting Scalia's successor to the public.
"You'd have to go back to 1888, you do remember Grover Cleveland, right, to find the last time a vacancy created in the Supreme Court in a presidential year was confirmed by a Senate of a different party than the president,” McConnell told reporters at the time.
If there is a vacancy on the Supreme Court next year, Donald Trump will nominate another conservative justice which would cement a 6-3 conservative majority on the court.
And that would establish Donald Trump's legacy as the President who finally ended the era of left-wing judicial activism at the nation's highest court.
